Dr Francoise Ndayishimiye

Dr. Ndayishimiye joined the Global Fund in November 2008 as a Senior Gender Advisor, in the Health Advisory Unit, which is part of the Strategy, Performance, and Evaluation (SPE) Cluster at The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. She is a medical doctor by profession with more than 16 years of professional gender and public health expertise, coordinating projects in the field of HIV/AIDS, gender as well as civil society environment.

Prior to joining the Global Fund secretariat, she was for three years, a Board Member of the Global Fund representing the Communities Living With and Affected by the three diseases and Board Member of the Friends of the Global fund Africa. At national level, she was the Executive Director of the National AIDS Council in Burundi, coordinating national AIDS program management, managing a number of AIDS and malaria projects funded by the Global Fund and the World Bank, among others. She was on the Burundi CCM and member of the Executive Committee of the regional Great Lakes Initiative against AIDS, and has been involved in HIV strategy and policy development, advocacy and resource mobilisation at national and international level. Prior to joining the National AIDS Council, she worked as HIV Program Coordinator in Action-Aid Burundi, and has been the first National Coordinator of Society for Women against AIDS in Africa (SWAA) in Burundi. She is also a founding member of the Burundi PLWHA network (RBP+) and of Burundi GIPA Centre, which was created after a two years pilot project on Greater Involvement of People living with HIV/AIDS in Burundi and that was coordinated by herself.

Francoise has been known as an empowered HIV-positive woman known since 1996, a gender-sensitive woman and a diplomatic advocator/activist in the HIV domain.
