New E-book About Motherhood Benefits mothers2mothers

19 March 2014

“Jennifer Haupt writes poignantly about the connections and missed connections between mothers and daughters – the love, the silence, the longing.” – Hope Edelman, author of Motherless Daughters

Award-winning journalist Jennifer Haupt’s new e-book, “Will You Be My Mother? My quest to answer, yes,” includes three stories from her journey to love better and connect more deeply with her children, her mother, and the world. It all began eight years ago, when a girl at the genocide museum in Rwanda asked Ms. Haupt to be her mother, and the author couldn’t find the courage to say yes. Since then, she has been on a quest to crank open her heart in big and small ways.

All author profits ($1 per book) from this mini-memoir until May 30, 2014 will be donated to mothers2mothers (m2m), a non-profit organisation that trains, employs, and empowers mothers living with HIV to eliminate the transmission of HIV from mothers to babies, and improve the health of women, their partners, and families in sub-Sahara Africa.

“This hauntingly beautiful memoir begins by linking the words ‘courage’ and ‘love,’” says Robin Smalley, co-founder and director of m2m. “It is an appropriate beginning to three stories that are searingly personal and deeply courageous, all revolving around the true meaning of motherhood. From Rwanda to Kenya, to her own childhood in the U.S., Jennifer Haupt leads us on a journey to explore the vulnerability, compassion, and caring it takes to care for another with an open heart and open mind.

“Will You Be My Mother? My quest to answer, yes,” is now available on Amazon.com, Barnes&Noble.com, Amazon.co.uk and kobo.com. It will be available on Shebooks.net on May 1.

Jennifer Haupt has been interviewing women who nurture the world for more than fifteen years, telling their stories in magazines and books. Since it was founded in 2001, m2m has reached more than 1.2 million HIV-positive mothers with essential health education and psychosocial support in nine African countries, putting mothers at the centre of the solution of ending paediatric AIDS and keeping mothers alive.
