What is mothers2mothers’ mission?
Our mission is to help eradicate mother-to-child transmission of HIV through an effective, sustainable model of care that relies on trained and supported local women who provide education and support for pregnant women and new mothers living with HIV.
Three main goals drive mothers2mothers’ work and are critical to achieving our mission:
- Preventing babies from contracting HIV through mother-to-child transmission
- Keeping mothers with HIV, and their babies, healthy
- Empowering mothers living with HIV, and thereby enabling them to fight stigma in their communities and to live positive and productive lives

The mothers2mothers website is the best place to start as it has the most information about the organization. On the website, you can learn more about the history of our organization, learn about our different country operations, and read stories from our inspirational Mentor Mothers. Where does my donation go?
All donations are used to support our programs in the nine countries where we operate, paying for everything from staff uniforms to the printing of training materials for our Mentor Mothers.
Is a donation the only way to help mothers2mothers?
While donations are greatly appreciated, they are not the only way you can help make a difference. The following are a few suggestions:
- Host a fundraiser for m2m – no matter where you are in the world, you can host a coffee morning, lunch, or another event in honor of m2m. - Join our social media campaign – become a friend on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, or vote for our videos on YouTube. Whatever you do, encourage your friends to join us as well!
- Get your company involved – you could request m2m to be added to your company’s list of approved NGOs, talk to your company’s corporate foundation or CSI department, or host a corporate fundraiser.

What are mothers2mothers’ management & general costs?
Management & General costs are those costs that are related to the administrative support services of mothers2mothers, including costs that support the primary executive functions of the organization such as the board of trustees, the annual report, corporate treasury and other purely administrative activities. Management & General costs plus Fundraising Expenses represent approximately 12% of our total cost. For a detailed breakdown of costs for support services, please see our 2010 Annual Report.
Are there volunteering opportunities at mothers2mothers?
mothers2mothers employs women living with HIV who have themselves gone through PMTCT to implement the mothers2mothers program model. These women are employed and paid by mothers2mothers. As such, mothers2mothers does not recruit volunteers to work in our sites.
