On May 16th, the Research & Development team at Tibotec in Mechelen, Belgium, celebrated the fact that their latest compound for the treatment of HIV/AIDS, INTELENCE (also known as etravirine, TMC125) had received its first approvals in the US, Canada and Switzerland. Further approvals are anticipated later this year. INTELENCE is the first drug in its class (the so-called NNRTIs), that retains antiviral activity, even when the virus has become resistant to other drugs of the same class. |
