Lesotho Mentor Mother Mamasikila Tsioane was recently featured in the video project Stories of Mothers Saved. A project commissioned by the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood and the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF), the video tells the story of women from all across the world who did not die needlessly during pregnancy or childbirth. Mamasikila is one of those women - thanks to the support she received at mothers2mothers, she was able to have a safe pregnancy and delivery and also remain healthy to raise her child. Heather Thorkelson, a recent Pfizer fellow at mothers2mothers, was so inspired by her time with the organization that she decided to organize a fundraiser in her home city of Toronto, Canada. With the help of Andrew Topham - one of the photographers who generously gave his time and talent to m2m last year to photograph our work in Zambia, Malawi, Kenya and Rwanda - Heather hosted an art exhibition in honor of mothers2mothers. Entitled Images of Courage and Hope: Extraordinary Stories from Women Living with HIV, 20 of Andrew's most beautiful images were exhibited and made available for purchase. Many of these images can be seen on our website as well as our 2009 Annual Report. |

One of our SIte Coordinators from Lesotho, Mahleloa Pitso, was invited to speak at the Women Deliver Conference 2010, held in Washington, D.C. earlier this month. Themed Delivering Solutions for Girls and Women, Ms. Pitso had the opportunity to participate in a panel together with Robin Smalley discussing community perspectives on PMTCT and the role of communities in advocating, supporting and delivering PMTCT services. Ms. Pitso specifically focused on her personal experiences as well as those of her m2m clients in Lesotho, providing the meeting delegates with real-life examples of the importance and success of PMTCT. |
