International pharmaceutical company Tibotec supports m2m initiative, 16 May 2008 |
On May 16th, the Research & Development team at Tibotec in Mechelen, Belgium, celebrated the fact that their latest compound for the treatment of HIV/AIDS, INTELENCE (also known as etravirine, TMC125) had received its first approvals in the US, Canada and Switzerland. Further approvals are anticipated later this year. INTELENCE is the first drug in its class (the so-called NNRTIs), that retains antiviral activity, even when the virus has become resistant to other drugs of the same class.
It is expected that INTELENCE will improve and save the lives of thousands of HIV-infected people world-wide. The approval and first launch of this promising compound was more than enough reason for the people who developed the compound to take a short break from their busy daily activities and celebrate their successes. As a memento of this celebration, Tibotec decided to purchase lanyards from mothers2mothers, so that everyone received a colorful present, while at the same time supporting this great initiative. |
