| m2m Site Coordinator wows UNICEF |
|
One of the most inspirational stories from the mothers that touch our lives at mothers2mothers, is that of Lesotho Site Coordinator Mathakane Metsing. Mathakane was filmed earlier this year by UNICEF Lesotho, and was instrumental in showcasing m2m’s work on the ground and portraying a ‘real’ picture of the situation of women and children in Lesotho. UNICEF was so inspired by Mathakane's openness, drive and passion for the work she does, that she was asked to visit the UK as a spokesperson on HIV and PMTCT, on 27 February 2008. . Mathakane recently attended UNICEF’s launch of a short film about PMTCT in London, where she was joined by UNICEF UK’s Ambassador Jemima Khan, who called for action to ensure that all pregnant women with HIV can access the health care they need to prevent them passing the virus to their babies. Khan called on G8 leaders to keep their promise, made in 2007, to help provide funding that would allow all pregnant women with HIV to receive treatment and care to ensure their babies are born free from HIV.
