Programmes

mothers2mothers (m2m) aims to reduce the number of babies born with HIV and help women access medical care for themselves and their families.

m2m uses education and empowerment as tools to prevent mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV/AIDS during pregnancy, combat stigma within families and communities, support a mother’s adherence to medical treatment, and reduce the likelihood of AIDS orphans.

m2m currently operates in 670 sites in the following places:

343 sites in 7 provinces across South Africa - Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal, North West and Gauteng
77 sites in Kenya
66 sites in Lesotho
46 sites in Malawi
48 sites in Rwanda
49 sites in Swaziland
41 sites in Zambia

We employ, and in so doing, have empowered over 1600 women living with HIV.

Our Services

mothers2mothers (m2m) recruits mothers living with HIV who have completed a pregnancy. These Mentor Mothers, serve as peer mentors and educators to HIV-positive pregnant women and HIV-positive women who have recently given birth.

In parts of Africa, up to 75% of the babies born stand to lose their mothers, who are HIV+, to AIDS-related illnesses. Without intervention, more than a quarter of these children will themselves inherit the virus. An entire generation is at stake.
