Promising New Data from UNAIDS17 October 2013
The recently released 2013 UNAIDS Report on the global AIDS epidemic contains new data, particularly relating to children. Among the findings to be celebrated.
– There has been a 52% reduction in new HIV infections among children since 2001.
– In 2012, 260,00 children were infected with HIV, down from 330,000 new paediatric infections in 2011.
– By the end of 2012, some 9.7 million people in low- and middle-income countries were accessing antiretroviral therapy, an increase of nearly 20% in just one year.
