Victoria Beckham makes her second visit to m2m

17 November 2014

VictoriaBeckham1m2m supporter Victoria Beckham met with Mentor Mothers for the second time this year, visiting the mothers2mothers site at the Ramokgopa Clinic in Polokwane, South Africa. The October visit was part of a three day fact finding mission to raise awareness of women and children living with HIV organised by the Elton John AIDS Foundation, which funds m2m’s programmes, and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). Victoria was recently appointed a UNAIDS International Goodwill Ambassador.

VictoriaBeckham2At the clinic, Victoria spent time with m2m Site Coordinator Johanna Satekge and the other Mentor Mothers she works with, discussing the importance of educating and supporting other HIV-positive mothers so they can access the medical care so critical to protecting their babies from HIV infection and keeping them healthy. She also accompanied Johanna to a client’s home where she heard about challenges women living with HIV face in their homes and communities. “As a mother, I want nothing but a happy and healthy future for my children and that’s all any mother would wish for,” Victoria said in HELLO! Magazine after her trip. “We have to support the women in these countries and communities to offer the same for their children. With simple, affordable, and available medication, mothers with HIV have the opportunity to give birth to HIV-free babies, creating an HIV-free generation.”

VictoriaBeckham3m2m Founder Dr. Mitch Besser, who accompanied Victoria on the visit, along with President and CEO Frank Beadle de Palomo, praised her. “We are grateful for Victoria’s support. She is a hard-working mother of four children. She can draw attention to the plight of mothers globally who want only the best for their children and the strength to care for their families. We celebrate her interest in supporting efforts to re-energize people’s interest in this cause,” he said.

Since making her first visit to an m2m site in Cape Town earlier this year, Victoria has joined m2m in its efforts to eliminate paediatric AIDS and create an HIV-free generation. This summer, she teamed up with THEOUTNET.COM to sell more than 600 iconic items of clothing to benefit m2m. The six-day sale generated much needed funds for m2m and huge global interest, with customers all over the world purchasing a range of pieces from her wardrobe.

Her life-changing trip to South Africa is detailed in HELLO! Magazine.
