Frank Beadle de Palomo at IAS 2019

Frank Beadle de Palomo, mothers2mothers’ (m2m’s) President and Chief Executive Officer, presented three posters on our research at the IAS Conference on HIV Science (IAS 2019) earlier this week. IAS 2019, which is taking place in Mexico City, Mexico from 21-24 July, is a biennial conference focused on advances in basic, clinical, and operational HIV research. The m2m posters examine the impact that m2m’s programme—driven by women living with HIV employed as lay health workers called Mentor Mothers—has had. This includes retaining HIV-positive women in care, encouraging HIV-negative women to retest, and primary prevention efforts.

Here are more details on the posters:

Primary prevention of HIV among HIV-negative pregnant and breastfeeding women

The aim of the study was to assess HIV prevention practices and the sero-conversion rate among HIV-negative pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers supported by the m2m programme. Read Poster

The role of peer lay health workers in improving retention in HIV services

The aim of this study was to describe the rate of treatment linkage and retention-in-care among HIV-positive women receiving m2m’s community linked peer support interventions. Read poster

The role of peer lay health workers in supporting HIV re-testing among HIV-negative pregnant and breastfeeding women Read poster (add link)

The aim of study was to describe the rate of HIV testing uptake among HIV-negative pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers supported by the m2m programme. Read poster

The programmes described in these posters were made possible thanks to the support of a number of government, corporate, foundation and individual donors. In particular, we are grateful to the President’s Emergency Program for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the United States Agency for International Development, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (who have supported us via partnerships including with the Elizabeth Glazer Paediatric AIDS Foundation) and Johnson & Johnson. Their steadfast support over the years has helped us develop, implement and measure the work on which these posters are based.
