ICAP Charity Day 2016 – mothers2mothers

On Wednesday 7th December 2016, ICAP Charity Day raised a staggering £8.2 million for 200 charity beneficiaries around the world. mothers2mothers (m2m) is thrilled to be chosen as one of the recipients of the day. Our support from ICAP will fund m2m’s critical adolescent initiative in South Africa. This will enable us to reach some of the most vulnerable, at risk adolescent girls and young women in South Africa.

We were joined by our Founder Dr. Mitch Besser, m2m Trustee Samantha Bond, and a few of our wonderful supporters, including Ruth Wilson, Mollie King, Jodie Kidd, Amber Atherton, Laura Carmichael, Laura Pradelska, Raquel Cassidy, and Kirsty Wark. Our fabulous guests became brokers for the day, negotiating hard and closing billion pound deals!

On the day, we teamed up with Sentebale in hosting a #BiketoBeatHIV Cycle Challenge, amplifying the voices of young people affected by HIV in sub-Saharan Africa.

We were thrilled to welcome so many guests who went head to head in a 750m cycle sprint. From pirates vs. dragons, upstairs vs. downstairs (Laura Carmichael vs. Raquel Cassidy), Channel 4 news vs. Channel 4 SAS (Jon Snow vs. Ant Middleton) to midwife vs. OB-GYN (Laura Main vs. Dr. Mitch Besser) – the pedal power was immense! Topping the leaderboard in the men’s and women’s category were: ICAP’s Sebastian Herran in 46.53 seconds, and m2m’s very own Head of Fundraising Zoe Macalpine, who went up against Olympic medallist Tim Foster, doing it for the girls in 61 seconds. Credit of the day has to go to some pirates who pedalled so fast that their facial hair melted off!

We have been honoured to work with Nikki Studt and her incredible team at ICAP as we prepared to be part of this awe-inspiring day. Thank you to everyone involved.
